TURNING THE LIGHT ON: ONE HOUSEHOLD AT A TIME

Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) is making a positive impact in rural Uganda through its Gender Action Learning System (GALS), a community empowerment initiative that focuses on mainstreaming gender equality and empowering women at the household level. Dorothy Nakintu, her husband Afan Nsubuga, and their children are among the beneficiaries of this initiative.

In October 2023, Dorothy’s family was chosen to participate in the GALS methodology offering them a unique opportunity to come together and discuss their financial status, relationships, and plans. Traditionally, men are viewed as superior decision-makers and providers in rural Ugandan families. FOWODE aims to challenge this dynamic by addressing power imbalances within households.
