SETTING A NEW AGENDA IN OUR FAMILY

Mr. Banada Yiga is a resident of Wabusaana Trading Centre in Kikyusa Sub County, Luwero District. He is married to Ms. Tumwebaze Sarah and together they have 6 children. Unlike a number of families in Uganda’s rural setting, Mr. Yiga’s family is nonviolent with no record of GBV in the last 5 years.

Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) is making a positive impact in Luwero and Mityana districts through the Gender Action Learning System (GALS), a methodology aimed at mainstreaming gender equality and empowering women at the household level and further encouraging active participation and engagement from both men and women. Banada’s household is among the beneficiaries of this initiative.

In October 2023, a team comprising of resource persons, a community facilitator, and a male champion conducted a household visit to Banada’s home. A male champion is a model man selected, trained, and equipped with further knowledge and skills in gender so as to influence fellow community members especially men to be more gender sensitive in management of their family and community affairs.
