Patricia Munabi , the Executive director of Forum for Women in Democracy in her opening remarks explained that the research on Violence Against Women in Elections (VAW-E) is an effort to begin to develop clarity on the topic of VAW-E. The onset of discussions around electoral reforms as part of the constitutional reforms presents an opportune time to discuss VAWE. The upcoming general elections also demand that the environment should be made favorable and safe for all to participate equally and equitably. One of the ways is to remove hindrances such as violence against women during elections.
On an annual basis, FOWODE analyses the national budget for a gender responsive perspective to establish the extent to which women, men, boys and girls will benefit from the allocations and make policy recommendations to the legislators prior to the approval of the National Budget.
