In a bid to interrogate the inclusivity of the FY 2019/20 budget and ensure that no one is left behind, the Uganda Gender Consortium on SDGs in partnership with NTV Uganda organized a National Post Budget Dialogue which took place on 27th June 2019 at Pearl of Africa Hotel between 7:00 and 12:30 pm. The multi-stakeholder dialogue was organized with the intention of providing citizens of Uganda with an opportunity and a platform to deliberate on the FY 2019/20 the national budget from a gender and equity dimension, while making recommendations for a more inclusive budget that reflects citizens’ priorities. This event was broadcast live on NTV and live chats on twitter under the hashtag #GenderBudget.
A panel of knowledgeable discussants was chosen to lead the discussion due to their different experiences/expertise and capacities. Panelists included: Hon. Joshua Anywarach (Parliament representative Nebbi District), Ms. Rita Achiro (ED UWONET), Ms. Lydia Kobusinge (Program Officer, NUDIPU), Ms. Ajambo Getrude (Community representative, Busia) and Emmanuel Mutaizibwa (NTV Journalist). This post budget dialogue assessed the extent to which the sustainable development targets reflected in the NDP II have been achieved; the dialogue also showcased how the human capital development concerns of women and men, boys and girls will be addressed; the dialogue put to light whether the 40.4 trillion budget is inclusive; and also, established whether the revenue generation strategies provide a good business environment especially for MSMEs.
